wearing a linen ephod
on 2 Samuel 6:14-15
A linen ephod is the garment of consecrated service: the boy Samuel wore one at 1 Samuel 2:18. Now the king wears it and “danced with all his might before the LORD”. All Israel brings up the ark, the open counterpart to the fear that turned the first procession back.
This site's exposition
the sounding of the ram’s horn
The ram's horn is the shofar of Israel's feasts and battles. Matthew Henry counts it a joy for a people when worship goes forward openly under its king's favour. Barnes notes that under Saul the ark had been neglected, citing 1 Chronicles 13:3.
