They set the ark of God on a new cart

on 2 Samuel 6:3-4

David's men set the ark “on a new cart”, the means the Philistines used to send it home at 1 Samuel 6:7. Numbers 4:15 and 7:9 gave the ark to the Kohathites to carry and warned they “must not touch the holy objects, or they will die”.

Ahio was walking in front of the ark

Ahio walks ahead of the ark while Uzzah guides the cart. Albert Barnes reads the two as descendants of Abinadab, and notes that the house may have kept the name of Abinadab long after his death. Matthew Henry sees the chosen men of Israel gathered to honour the ark.
