When they had assembled their brothers
on 2 Chronicles 29:15-17
They begin “on the first day of the first month”, reach “the portico of the LORD” on the eighth and finish on the sixteenth. That runs two days past the fourteenth of Nisan, the day of Passover. Chapter 30 keeps the feast in the second month under Num 9:10-11.

finishing on the sixteenth day of the first month
The work falls into two equal parts. Clarke notes that the Targum names the first month as Nisan, the month of Passover under Exodus 12:2-6. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown note that the Levites went to report once the second eight days were done, the report verse 18 records.

A solemn revival of God's ordinances that had been neglected, in which atonement was made for the sins of the last reign, and the wheels were set a-going again, to the great satisfaction of king and people,
Let those that do good work learn to rid work and get it done. Let what is amiss be amended quickly. The report they made of it to Hezekiah was very agreeable,

This took eight days more. At the end of this period they repaired to the palace and announced that not only had the whole of the sacred edifice, within and without, undergone a thorough purification, but all the vessels which the late king had taken away and applied to a common use in his palace, had been restored, "and sanctified."
On the first day - “They began on the first day of the first month Nisan.” - Targum.
