Hezekiah and his officials order the Levites to sing “in the words of David and of Asaph the seer”. Asaph is the singer David set over the ark's service. The title seer gives the songs a prophetic standing, as 1 Chr 25:1 does for singers who prophesy with harps.

The command to sing comes from the king and his officials together. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown note that the civil rulers joined the worship themselves. Matthew Henry reads the day as a beginning, the service set up again so that it could be kept up without a break.
