etc. The list of names here given corresponds generally with that in 2 Sam. 23:24-39, but presents several remarkable differences. (1) the number in Chronicles is 47; the number in Samuel is 31. (2) Four names in the list of Chronicles are not in Samuel. (3) five names in Samuel are not in Chronicles. (4) many of the other names, both personal and local, vary in the two lists. It is quite possible that the two lists varied to some extent originally.
This site's exposition
Asahel the brother of Joab
on 1 Chronicles 11:26-31
The roll's third tier, the valiant men of the armies, opens with Asahel, Joab's brother killed years earlier in 2 Sam 2:23, named in the honor roll though already dead when Chronicles was written, and this unit closes with a different Benaiah, the Pirathonite. Chronicles' full list numbers forty-seven names against Samuel's thirty-one at 2 Sam 23:24-39; four names appear only here, five appear only there, and the rest vary enough in spelling that one original list could stand behind both without either being simply wrong.

3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the L ORD ; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the L ORD by Samuel. 4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

Also the valiant men of the armies--This was the third degree of military rank, and Asahel was their chief; the names of few of those mentioned are historically known.
