The song of Moses. ‘Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth’. A covenant lawsuit in verse. The Rock of Israel; his work is perfect; his ways are judgment. Jeshurun waxed fat and kicked. The LORD will provoke them with a foolish nation; fire kindled to the lowest hell; arrows drunk with blood. ‘See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal’ (32:39). Vengeance is mine, and recompence. ‘Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people’. Cited in Rom 15:10. Moses teaches the song so that Israel cannot unlearn it. ‘Get thee up into this mountain … and die in the mount’.
