The story, plainly
Acts in five questions
What happens
The risen Jesus ascends, the Spirit falls at Pentecost, and the gospel runs: from a Jerusalem prayer meeting to Samaria, to a Gentile centurion's house, and on through Asia and Greece until Paul preaches at the heart of the empire. One generation, Jerusalem to Rome.
Why it matters
You shall be my witnesses: Acts shows the Spirit building the church exactly as Jesus promised, and leaves the story open because it is still running.
The book
Card plates: Gustave Doré — Doré’s English Bible (1866) and the Doré New Testament engravings. Public domain.
