Now these are the generations
on Ruth 4:18-20
The heading "these are the generations" is the formula Genesis uses ten times, from 2:4 to 37:2. Ten names run from Perez to David, the count from Adam to Noah and from Shem to Abraham. Nahshon, prince of Judah at Numbers 1:7 and Aaron's brother-in-law at Exodus 6:23, dates the list to the exodus, and Albert Barnes calls four names for near four centuries an unsolved difficulty.
