5 notes on this verseIf any did come to perfection, it was not to be used in the service either of God or man; but what they bore the fourth year was to be holy to the Lord, either given to the priests, or eaten before the Lord with joy, as their second tithe was, and thenceforward it was all their own.

A planted tree's fruit is "forbidden" for three years. The Hebrew behind that word is uncircumcised, used of men and of the lips of Moses at Exodus 6:12. The Torah uses it of a tree only here.

Matthew Henry records two uses for this fruit. It was given to the priests or eaten before the LORD with joy, like the second tithe. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown quote Michaelis, who took the earlier ban to mean pinching off the young fruit by hand.
