4 notes on this verseIf any did come to perfection, it was not to be used in the service either of God or man; but what they bore the fourth year was to be holy to the Lord, either given to the priests, or eaten before the Lord with joy, as their second tithe was, and thenceforward it was all their own.

on Leviticus 19:23-25
A planted tree is left alone for three years, its fourth crop is given wholly to God, and the owner eats in the fifth. The word used of the young fruit is uncircumcised, which the Torah otherwise applies to men and to the lips of Moses at Exodus 6:12, and to a tree only here. The law assumes a settled people, since it opens with when ye shall come into the land and asks a man to wait four years before he tastes what he planted. The fourth year crop is holy to praise the LORD withal, which puts the first edible harvest in the class of the firstfruits sheaf of Leviticus 23:10.
