on Joshua 7:22-23
The messengers run, the one quick movement in a chapter that proceeds by assembly and lot. The tent matches the confession exactly, the goods hidden and the silver underneath. The goods are laid out before the LORD, so the silver and gold reach the treasury they were devoted to at 6:19, after a defeat and thirty-six graves.

Those that feel themselves under wrath find themselves concerned not to defer the putting away of sin. Delays are dangerous, and it is not time to trifle.

And by this story it appears that, as the laws, so Canaan itself, "made nothing perfect," the perfection both of holiness and peace to God's Israel is to be expected in the heavenly Canaan only.
