Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women
on Jeremiah 44:20-23
Jeremiah answers that the LORD remembered the incense they burned. “So the LORD could no longer endure the evil deeds and detestable acts you committed.” The ruin they blame is the result of their worship: “Because you burned incense and sinned against the LORD,” this disaster has befallen them.

Note, The right understanding of the cause of our troubles, one would think, should go far towards the cure of our sins. Whatever evil comes upon us, it is because we have sinned against the Lord, and should therefore stand in awe and sin not.
