And they shall no longer say, As the Lord lives, who brought the sons of Israel up from the land of Egypt; but they shall say, As the Lord lives, who brought up and led the descendants of the house of Israel from the land of the north and from all the countries where I had driven them, and they shall live on their own soil. This entire chapter is not found in the Septuagint.

A new oath will replace the one, “As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.” The land of the north answers the boiling pot from the north at Jeremiah’s call in chapter 1.

The land of the north is Babylon, the same direction from which disaster came in the book's first chapter (1:14). Jerome notes that the Greek lacks this passage. The last line answers verse 3, where the scattered flock returns to its own pasture.
