he returned to Egypt with his brothers
Joseph buries his father in Canaan and returns to Egypt with his brothers. The household goes up to the land carrying a body and comes back down alive. Genesis ends with the sons of Israel in Egypt, and the land promised to Abraham on oath is still ahead of them.
