4 notes on this verseLet us see what Moses says after these words: "And Israel dwelt," the text says, "in Egypt, in the land of Goshen." Now "Goshen" means "proximity" or "nearness."

They acquired property there
Egypt has just sold its fields and its freedom. Israel acquires property in Goshen and becomes fruitful and numerous, the blessing of Genesis 1:28 falling on one family. Exodus 1:7 opens on this same sentence, and by Exodus 1:11 the positions have reversed. God had told Abraham at Genesis 15:13 that his offspring would be strangers in a land not their own.
