The stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim - Jeroboam, the first king of the ten tribes, was an Ephraimite. Joseph represents the ten tribes in general; they were in the hand of Ephraim, that is, under the government of Jeroboam.

on Ezekiel 37:15-20

The chapter's second sign is in wood: one stick for Judah, another for Joseph, joined “so that they become one in your hand”. The schism that began when ten tribes followed Jeroboam is healed in the prophet's fist before it is promised, as Ezekiel's signs precede his sermons.

Adam Clarke explains the phrase in the hand of Ephraim: Jeroboam, the first king of the northern tribes, came from Ephraim. Joseph names the ten tribes as a whole. In verse 17 the sticks became one in the prophet's hand, and here they become one in God's hand.
