Asahel the brother of Joab
on 1 Chronicles 11:26-31
The roll's third tier, the valiant men of the armies, opens with Asahel, Joab's brother killed years earlier in 2 Sam 2:23, named in the honor roll though already dead when Chronicles was written, and this unit closes with a different Benaiah, the Pirathonite. Chronicles' full list numbers forty-seven names against Samuel's thirty-one at 2 Sam 23:24-39; four names appear only here, five appear only there, and the rest vary enough in spelling that one original list could stand behind both without either being simply wrong.
