on 1 Kings 6:23-28

The two cherubim of olive wood stand ten cubits high, with wings of five cubits each. The tabernacle’s cherubim were a small pair of gold worked into the mercy seat at Exodus 25:18-20. These stand free, carved of wood, overlaid with gold, and built to the room’s scale.

The two cherubim were twins in size and shape. Bede reads the pair as a sign of love, which needs at least two. He sets beside it the Lord sending his disciples out in pairs.
