on 1 Kings 16:16-18

Word reaches the camp at Gibbethon, and “that very day, all Israel proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel”. Omri besieges Tirzah, and when the city falls Zimri enters the royal citadel and “burned it down upon himself”. Seven days after killing Elah, Zimri is dead.

Albert Barnes notes that Omri and the army of Israel marched up from Gibbethon in the western foothills to the hill country where Tirzah stood. Joshua 19:44 lists Gibbethon among the towns of Dan. John Gill records the march as thirty-six miles.
