Thus, when the throne of Christ is set up in a soul, there is, or ought to be, great joy in that soul: and provision is made for the feasting of it, not as here for two or three days, but for the whole life, nay, for eternity.

Three days of eating and drinking follow at Hebron, provision brought on asses, camels, mules and oxen from Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali alone, because their brethren had prepared for them: a coronation kept as a feast rather than a ceremony. Matthew Henry reads the feast itself as the fruit of the moment, a noble entertainment made for an occasion Israel could not help but celebrate, for there was joy in Israel. Adam Clarke reads the three days as deputies rather than the full numbered host, since so vast a company could not literally have feasted together that long, and the nearest tribes carried the greater share of supplying it.
