on 1 Chronicles 12:23-27
The second list begins at Hebron, numbering the men armed for battle who came to turn Saul’s kingdom over to him. Judah sends 6,800 and Levi 4,600, and Jehoiada brings 3,700 more. Clarke identifies this Jehoiada as the father of Benaiah, a different man from Abiathar the high priest.

Judah had already made David its king at Hebron (2 Samuel 2:4 and 11), and its company here is among the smallest in the list. Shield and spear mark heavy infantry.
