Jacob's Ladder
A fleeing deceiver lies down on a stone in the wilderness and meets God. He sees a ladder set between heaven and earth, the angels ascending and descending, and the LORD above renewing the promise. Jesus claims the ladder as Himself — the one Mediator between heaven and earth (John 1:51).

— John 1:51“Ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.” Jesus takes Jacob's ladder and puts Himself in its place: He is the meeting-point of heaven and earth, the way opened between God and man. And so Jacob names the place Bethel — “the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
