The threat to consume them in an instant is the third of its kind, after Exodus 32:10 and Numbers 14:12. Each time Moses stands in the way.

Separate yourselves from this congregation

The verb is the one verse 9 used when God separated the Levites from the congregation. Now God tells Moses and Aaron to stand apart so the whole people can be consumed. After the prayer, verse 24 narrows it to three households.

Not only from Korah's company, but from the congregation of the children of Israel, whom Korah had got together, besides the two hundred fifty men that were at first with him; who by their words and behaviour, and particularly by their association and standing along with him, showed them to be on his side, which greatly provoked the Lord: that I may consume them in a moment; by fire from him, as the two hundred fifty men were afterwards consumed, Num 16:35.
