Commentary

4 notes on this verse
Every thing devoted in Israel shall be thine. Fields, houses, cattle, &c. if absolutely devoted to the Lord, they were the priest's; but if devoted to certain uses, they were appropriated to those uses, as the repairs of the temple, &c. see Lev 27:1.

This site's exposition

I have put you in charge of My offerings

on Numbers 18:8-14

The portions follow two rules. In verses 9 and 10 every male may eat the most holy offerings. Every ceremonially clean person in the priest's household, daughters included, may eat the gifts and firstfruits of verses 11 to 13.

This site's exposition

Every devoted thing in Israel

A devoted thing is herem, something given over to the LORD for good, and Leviticus 27:28 rules that it cannot be sold or redeemed. John Gill gives devoted fields, houses and cattle to the priest. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown keep devoted gold and silver for the sanctuary.

Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible (1871)

Every thing devoted in Israel shall be thine--provided it was adapted for food or consumable by use; for the gold and silver vessels that were dedicated as the spoils of victory were not given to the priests, but for the use and adornment of the sacred edifice.
