Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible (1871)

The words, "I put the leprosy," has led many to think that this plague was a judicial infliction from heaven for the sins of the owner; while others do not regard it in this light, it being common in Scripture to represent God as doing that which He only permits in His providence to be done.

This law looks ahead to a land Israel has not entered, since tents have no stone walls. The house is cleared first, so that nothing in the house will become unclean.

John Wesley draws a lesson from the timing. Uncleanness began with the priest's declaration, so goods carried out beforehand stayed clean. Wesley reads this as the difference God makes between sins of ignorance and sins against knowledge.

That all be not made unclean - It is observable here, that neither the people nor the household stuff were polluted till the leprosy was discovered and declared by the priest, to shew what great difference God makes between sins of ignorance, and sins against knowledge.
