on Ezekiel 48:1-7
Seven tribes receive parallel strips, beginning “At the northern frontier” with Dan and ending with Judah, whose portion borders the holy portion. In Joshua the tribes received land by lot within borders shaped by rivers and hills. Here the portions are straight bands around a fixed center.

Asher's lot in Joshua 19:24 to 31 lay along the northern coast toward Sidon. Here it lies next to Dan, second from the northern border. The sons of Jacob's two maidservants, Dan, Asher, Naphtali and Gad, receive the strips farthest from the sanctuary.
