Eze 48:18 Then, that serve - i. e., the cultivators or farmers. Eze 48:19 Of old the city belonged to Benjamin and Judah, and its inhabitants were mainly from these tribes. Now all the tribes are to have equal part in it, and avoid jealousies (compare 2Sa 19:43).

Beside the holy portion lies ground “for common use by the city, for houses, and for pastureland”, with the city “in the center of it”. Common use stands next to consecrated use, the same distinction chapter 42 drew between the priests' garments and the outer court.
