A second census follows for “the remaining descendants of Levi”. Albert Barnes counts twenty-five family heads here against the twenty-four priestly courses, and the text leaves the difference unexplained. Verse 31 restates the method, since these houses also “cast lots in the presence of King David”.

Mushi's sons are Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth. They close the list of Levite families. John Gill, on 1 Chronicles 23:23, notes that the same three names appear there, with Mahli named after his uncle.
