5 notes on this verseHe departed - From the door of the tabernacle, in token of his great displeasure, not waiting for their answer. The removal of God~s presence from us, is the saddest token of his displeasure. And he never departs, till we by our sin and folly drive him from us.

Speaking “face to face” stands against vision and dream, as at Exodus 33:11, though Exodus 33:20 says “no one can see Me and live”. Older readers take “the form of the LORD” as a showing of glory.

Wesley notes that the LORD leaves without waiting for any answer from the two accused. The departure is itself the sentence. Ezekiel 10:18 sets the glory departing from the temple before judgment falls on Jerusalem.
