The LORD recalls the release law given at the exodus and notes that “your fathers did not listen or incline their ear.” The sons had done right, making a covenant “in the house that bears My Name,” then “profaned My name” by taking their slaves back.

The LORD counts the release as right in his sight, though fear of the sword had brought it about. Henry says that had they kept the covenant their peace might have lasted, as Daniel 4 says of Nebuchadnezzar. They made it in the house that bears his name.
