The reversal pairs healing with pardon: “I will bring to it health and healing,” and “I will cleanse them from all the iniquity.” The aim is that the city “will bring Me renown, joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth.”

Clarke and Jamieson, Fausset and Brown note that the ten northern tribes did not come back with the Jews after seventy years. So they place the full answer in a later time. Barnes reads as in former times as the days before sin provoked the Lord.
