in Jeremiah 36so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the scroll you have written at my dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.

on Jeremiah 36:5-8
Jeremiah says, “I am restricted; I cannot enter the house of the LORD,” so the reading falls to Baruch. Gill and Clarke connect the restriction with the hostility after his trial in chapter 26. Verse 8 records that he did everything Jeremiah had commanded him.

A fast day brought people from every town of Judah into the temple, as John Wesley notes. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown mark this fast as an extraordinary one in the ninth month, apart from the Day of Atonement in the seventh. Baruch waited for it, as verse 9 shows.
