which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword
on Jeremiah 33:4-9
The houses thrown down by the siege mounts and the sword are named first, ruin acknowledged before any promise is offered, the dead bodies of men whom I have slain in mine anger a plain statement of whose judgment the siege carries out. Against that admission stands the reversal, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, healing paired with pardon rather than healing alone. The chapter's aim is stated at verse 9, it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, the restoration meant to be seen and not only felt.
