on Jeremiah 23:5-6
The good shepherd promised in verse 4 is named in verse 5, a righteous Branch raised to David who will reign, execute judgment and justice, and prosper where the last kings of chapter 22 failed at exactly that test. His name in verse 6, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, answers Zedekiah's own throne-name, which means the Lord is righteousness, a king whose name was a promise his reign never kept given to a king whose name will not fail. The older commentators read the Branch at full messianic strength, David's line producing a king who bears the covenant name as his own, and the same title returns at 33:16, there laid on the city rather than the king, a placement the commentators note without smoothing over.

Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous branch (or a righteous king); and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: The Lord is our righteousness. In Hebrew, it is called Sadecenu. This which is wrongly added in the Septuagint, in the Prophets, must be completely cut off.
