When they reached their father Jacob in the land of Canaan
on Genesis 42:29-34
The report they give Jacob follows the meeting closely, with one thing left out and one thing added. They leave out what they had said, that they were being punished for their brother. John Gill notes that the trade in the land was never offered them, and they add it.

The verb for trade is sachar, to travel about as a merchant. The Midianite merchants who carried Joseph off at 37:28 are named with a word from the same root. The brothers now hope to buy where their brother was sold.
