When they reached their father Jacob in the land of Canaan
on Genesis 42:29-34
The report they give Jacob follows the meeting closely, with one thing left out and one thing added. They leave out what they had said, that they were being punished for their brother. John Gill notes that the trade in the land was never offered them, and they add it.

The brothers call Joseph lord of the land twice in this report, here and at verse 33. They have no name for him. Jacob hears of a ruler over his sons and has no idea it is the dreamer of chapter 37.
