in Ezekiel 23They will come against you with a host of peoples, with weapons, chariots, and wagons. They will array themselves against you on every side with buckler and shield and helmet. I will delegate judgment to them, and they will punish you according to their own standards.

on Ezekiel 23:22-27
The Lord raises up Jerusalem's own former lovers, the Babylonians and their allies. Keil reads the mutilation named at verse 25 against known penalties for adultery in the surrounding cultures. Fairbairn notes the stripping of clothes and jewels at verse 26 answers the ornaments the Lord gave in chapter 16.

The LORD delegates judgment to the Babylonians, and they punish by their own standards. Wesley read this as a conqueror's right over rebels, joined to God's own right over His people. The fury of verse 25 comes from the lovers Jerusalem chose.
