on Ezekiel 37:21-24
The scattered are gathered into “one nation in the land”, under one king and never again divided, and cleansed: “they will be My people, and I will be their God”. The king is named, “My servant David”, with “one shepherd for all of them”, the promise of 34:23 returned. The Targum and the older writers read the Messiah of David's line here, as the church reads John 10's shepherd, and a few look for a literal David raised.

The cleansing repeats Ezekiel 36:25, where God promised to sprinkle clean water and remove idols. John Wesley takes cleanse to cover both justifying and sanctifying. Matthew Henry notes that a people truly cured of idolatry leaves all its sins, since hatred of sin as sin extends to every sin.
