And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years. Which, with the fourteen he reigned contemporary with him, made the twenty nine years he reigned, 2Ki 14:2. The Vulgate Latin version is, "twenty five years".

Amaziah outlives Jehoash by fifteen years, years the commentators read as a long decline after the humiliation at Jerusalem's broken wall and plundered temple. A conspiracy rises against him in the capital itself, and he flees south to Lachish, a fortified city in Judah, but the conspirators follow and kill him there. His body is brought back on horses and buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David, honor given to the corpse that the living king had lost.
