Jerahmeel's branch runs in bare names, and the notice that a son died without children marks a line that goes no further. It ends in Sheshan, and Sheshan had no sons, but only daughters. Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, an Egyptian, and she bore Attai.

Attai was the father of Nathan
Through Jarha an Egyptian enters Judah's record, as Jether the Ishmaelite did in verse 17. From Attai the chain runs father to son with no side branches. Nathan here is a different man from David's son.
