Though they had each of them but one son, yet the plural number is used, their posterity being included, as in 1Ch 2:8 and so in the next clause: and the children of Sheshan; Ahlai; who, from 1Ch 2:34 appears to be a daughter.

Jerahmeel's branch runs in bare names, and the notice that a son died without children marks a line that goes no further. It ends in Sheshan, and Sheshan had no sons, but only daughters. Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, an Egyptian, and she bore Attai.

Ahlai is named as Sheshan's child, yet verse 34 says Sheshan had no sons. Gill reads verse 34 as showing Ahlai to be a daughter. A Zabad son of Ahlai stands among David's mighty men in 1 Chronicles 11:41.
