How long they stayed there is not certain: and pitched at Ijeabarim; which, according to Bunting (k), was sixteen miles from Oboth; Jarchi says it was the way that passengers pass by Mount Nebo to the land of Canaan, and which divides between the land of Moab and the land of the Amorites: in the wilderness which is before Moab; called the wilderness of Moab, Deu 2:8. towards the sunrising; the east side of the land of Moab, Jdg 11:18. on Numbers 21:10-13
Four stages bring Israel to the border of Moab, and one of them closes the sentence passed at Kadesh. Deuteronomy 2:14 counts thirty-eight years until they crossed the Brook of Zered, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished.

Albert Barnes gives the name as the ruinous heaps of Abarim, with Abarim meaning the upland country east of the Jordan. John Gill places the camp on the east side of Moab and links this wilderness with Deuteronomy 2:8 and Judges 11:18. Israel kept to the edge of Moab.
