The register opens with "the priests and Levites who went up with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and with Jeshua." Twenty-two priestly names stand against the twenty-four courses David ordered, a gap the commentators trace to courses that never returned from Babylon.

Clarke notes that the courses David set by lot continued until the Romans destroyed Jerusalem. Jedaiah appears twice in this list, at verses 6 and 7, as two separate houses. Both have heads at 12:19 and 12:21.
