A second list of course heads follows, now serving "In the days of Joiakim," the second generation after the return. Several of these names recur among the sealers of the covenant in chapter 10. The priesthood renews itself by father's house, name matched to name and course to course.

Joiakim's list ends with twenty heads for twenty-one houses, and Jamieson, Fausset and Brown set that twenty against the twenty-four courses of David. Hattush of verse 2 has no head in this list.
