A second list of course heads follows, now serving "In the days of Joiakim," the second generation after the return. Several of these names recur among the sealers of the covenant in chapter 10. The priesthood renews itself by father's house, name matched to name and course to course.

Jedaiah son of Joiarib heads the priests settled in Jerusalem at 11:10-11, so these two houses stand side by side in both rolls. Uzzi heads the first Jedaiah here, and verse 21 gives the second to Nethanel. Mattenai heads Joiarib's house.
