Barak arrives, and the word of verse 9 is fulfilled before him. Albert Barnes holds that Barak would have taken the woman of that prophecy for Deborah, and only the event explained it. Verse 23 makes God the subject, and "the land had rest" is held back until 5:31.

On that day answers Deborah's words in verse 14, this is the day. One day's battle ends a king's twenty years of harsh oppression from verse 3. The verb subdued belongs to God alone here.
