Covetousness - literally, gain. Besides exacting forced labor Jehoiakim, to procure the necessary means for the vast expenses he incurred, put innocent people to death on various pretexts, and escheated their property.

The woe falls on the one “who builds his palace by unrighteousness”. The LORD asks Jehoiakim, “Does it make you a king to excel in cedar?” and sets beside him his father, who “administered justice and righteousness, and so it went well with him.”

Jehoiakim's eyes and heart are set on gain, the opposite of his father's care for the poor. Barnes notes that he put innocent people to death on false charges and took their property. The book names one victim, the prophet Uriah (26:20-23).
