The man solemnly warned us
on Genesis 43:3-5
Judah states the condition twice in three verses, that they will not see the man's face unless their brother is with them. John Calvin notes the firmness in Judah, who will go on no other terms. The one thing the ruler wants is the son Jacob has kept at home.

Judah now speaks for the brothers, and Reuben's offer of his two sons at 42:37 is set aside. He puts the choice to Jacob as two plain conditions, one in each verse. The same man proposed selling Joseph at 37:27.
