When Arphaxad was 35 years old
on Genesis 11:12-15
The list keeps the shape of Genesis 5 and drops its refrain. Every man in Genesis 5 ended with and then he died, and no death is recorded here. The ages at fatherhood fall, from a hundred and more in Adam's line to 35 for Arphaxad and 30 for Shelah.

Arphaxad lived 403 years
Arphaxad lived 438 years, and Gill notes that the Latin gives the 403 years as 303. He also passes on the report of a Jewish writer, Rabbi Gedaliah, that the city of Babel was begun in the years of Arphaxad. The tower then stands in this line of Shem.
