Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible (1871)
In the speech of Stephen (Ac 7:14) the number is stated to be seventy-five; but as that estimate includes five sons of Ephraim and Manasseh (1Ch 7:14-20), born in Egypt, the two accounts coincide.

these are the names of the sons of Israel
on Genesis 46:8-11
The roll opens with Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, who loses the birthright in chapter 49 for what he did with his father's bed. Simeon and Levi stand next, the two who took Shechem by the sword, and Shaul is marked the son of a Canaanite woman. Few mothers are named in the roll.
